Inaugural Event 25th August 2004

The Kala Kahani Writers' Development Programme was launched with a meeting at the Stoneycroft Hotel in Leicester on Wednesday 25th August. All potential participants in the scheme were invited along to meet the organisers of the programme, Jo Turner & Debjani Chatterjee. The meeting was also supported by Damien Walter, Literature Development Officer for Leicester City.
This first gathering aimed to introduce organisers and participants to one another, to look at the range of artistic development opportunities and activities that could be offered and to begin to share work. Debjani also showed a recording of the Channel 4 poetry programme "Towers of Silence" which featured a presentation of one of her poems, as an example of a multi-media interpretation of poetry. A total of 11 writers from around the East Midlands took part in this first event which was a very lively and friendly affair. There was a wealth of talent on display and a great enthusiasm from everyone to continue with the programme and explore its possibilities.
