RIFCO

RIFCO is committed to developing theatre which explores and celebrates the British Asian Experience. Through new writing we celebrate and enhance the contemporary fusions which exist in our society in an honest, accessible and colourful way. We aim to serve South Asian Communities locally and nationally, making them feel valued, represented and enticing them into the theatre; whilst presenting work which reaches ethnically varied audiences through its content and sheer ability to entertain.  

RIFCO, (The Reduced Indian Film Company) was first established in September 1997 and was originally formed as a consortium of Actors and Directors wanting to create a fresh voice in South Asian Theatre.

 

In 1998 RIFCO worked with The Leicester Haymarket Theatre to produce 'Airport 2000', a wonderfully energetic and humorous look at British Asian Travel. 'Airport 2000', was a sell out success. In 1999 'Airport 2000' was remounted as part of the Millennium festival in co -production with Theatre Royal Stratford East.

 

In 2000 RIFCO worked on a new production 'Bollywood 2000'. The show was a hilarious look at Bollywood, from a British Asian perspective and toured to regional venues with wonderful reviews and an excellent audience response. In 2003, the show was re-launched in association with the Riverside Studios, Hammersmith. 'Bollywood. Yet another love story' enjoyed more rapturous success.

 

In 2000 RIFCO moved back to Slough hoping to refocus its successful community work in its home town. With support from The Arts Council of England this work has enabled us to develop a relationship with local schools and community groups, whilst promoting interest in our work and the arts in an area which has had no professional theatre for over 20 years.

 

In 2004 RIFCO produced their latest smash hit 'The Deranged Marriage,' a celebration of British Asian arranged marriages which sold out throughout its 8 week tour. The Deranged Marriage will re-tour in Autumn 2005.
