Book Crossing CampaignWhat better way to get people to enjoy literature by South Asian authors, than to give away free books! As part of our campaign to encourage an appreciation of South Asian writers in particular, we have purchased a large quantity of excellent books. Titles include 'The Kite Runner' by Khaled Hosseini, 'The God of Small Things' by Arundhati Roy, 'The Glass Palace' by Amitav Ghosh and many many more. When I went out on my first 'giving away' mission, it was really quite amusing. I tried to inconspicously leave them on benches, in train stations and in parks, only to find people running after me shouting 'You forgot your book!' So then I thought maybe the direct approach would work better, talk to people, explain, put a book in their hand.... I was treated as unbalanced or I had the plague! you don't know how hard it is to give something away for free! Any ideas? So, I still have quite a few books if anyone would like one, all you have to do is read it and pass it on, if you could email me what you thought, that would be even better. |
