Sharing Our Heritage

Charnwood Arts, Kala Kahani Project and HR&EC Charnwood are working in partnership to host a community day on Saturday 11th December. At the community day we will be asking local community members to bring along photographs, newspaper clippings, ornaments, objects and treasured items that they brought with them in the 1970's and 80's when they came from East Africa or other corners of the world. Together we are going to create both a book and an exhibition to be shared with our local community. Our memories form who we are and without them we do not know who we are or where we have come from. So come along and tell us your story and photograph your treasures as part of our book. Also on the day we will have a bring and buy sale, face painters, henna painters and a storyteller! Bring the family along for some fun between 3pm and 5pm at St Peters Community Centre, Storer Road in Loughborough.. If you would like to take part in this project or volunteer to help us, please call Rebecca on 01509 821035 or Varsha on (01509) 261651 or email rebecca.abrahams@charnwoodarts.com

Update
We had a great day with people turning up to share both their photo's and memories with us. Our storyteller Hema was very popular with the children as she got them to join in with a story about a peacock! The activities were great fun with lots of entries for the colouring competition and the jewelry making workshop had some great results. We will continue to collect photo's of artefacts, newspaper clippings and are still looking for people interested in taking part in the project.
