The Diamond of Regret

 

This piece is about Captain Wallace thinking how this diamond could have prevented the death of his wife. We improvised by adding dialogue and setting a scene.

 

Characters

Captain Wallace – Court Surgeon

Marianne – his daughter

Zeenat Begum – Marianne’s grandmother

 

The scene is set in a living room of a house in Hindustan in the late afternoon.

 

Capt        Oh, if only I had found the diamond before.

 

Zeenat     Stop worrying yourself, its no good for you.

              Sits down in a chair

 

Capt        But I could have saved her, if only i......

              Walks in circles slowly

 

Zeenat     Look what its doing to you, it’s ruining you!

 

Capt        What about poor Marianne...     

 

Marianne  (stands up) Stp it! It’s always about the diamond, that thing is useless, it’s changing us all!

She takes the diamond and chucks it as far as she can in fury.

 

Zeenat     Calm down, hush my child.

              Zeenat holds Marianne by the shouder and calms her down

 

Marianne colapses onto the chair. Zeenat crouches beside her. capt Wallace throws a chair aside with a grunt of rage.

 

They all come together and sigh.
